Matt Cassel AKA Not Tom Brady

Published by bertman at 12:32 pm under NFL Edit This

With the New England Patriots QB Tom Brady out for the season with a torn ACL and MCL in his left knee, what does this mean for the Patriots and their 200-09 season.

Well it doesn’t look as good as it did before Tom Brady got injured halfway through the first quarter in week 1 of the season. The will be starting backup QB Matt Cassel who has not started a game since he was in high school in 1999. HE will at least have all of Brady’s weapons, but the question is will he be able to use them like Brady did. After Brady went down last week he was able to hook up with WR Randy Moss and stay out in front of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Even though Cassel has never started a NFL game he has watched and learned from Tom Brady and what better QB to learn from than 3 time superbowl winner and last years MVP. I think the Patriots will stand a better chance playing Cassel rather than trying to pick someone up. Cassel know’s the offense and has work with this team since being drafted. But will Matt Cassel be able to take the Patriots to the playoffs? A team that went 16-0 the the regular season last year has to make the playoffs the next year, don’t they? I would think so. If they make the playoffs are they a superbowl team? Most likely not. It all depends on how Matt Cassel preforms through out this season.

I mean if they couldn’t win it last year with Brady I don’t think they will this year with backup QB Matt Cassel, but you never know. When Tom Brady took over as the Patriots QB he was a backup and came out and took over the team. So I won’t say anything impossible, but it close to impossible.

With only being a week into the NFL season it’s still hard to tell where the Patriots will be at the end of the season. But one thing is for sure, they will have to get there with out Tom Brady.
