Cassel and the Pats hold off the Jets

Published by bertman under NFL Edit This

Matt Cassel got his first start today against the New York Jets. This being Cassel’s first start since 1999 and his first start ever as a QB in the NFL he was able to walk away with a win. An unpretty win, but still a win.

The Pats were able to score in the first quarter with a field goal. It was a low scoring first quarter with the only points being scored by the Patriots off that one field goal. The second was another low scoring quarter. The Patriots would tack on another field goal making the score 6-0, but the Jets would answer with a field goal of their own to make the score 6-3 going in to the half.

The Patriots would be able to put the ball in with a 1 yard touchdown run. This touchdown was setup ball a ball that B.Meriweather picked from a pass thrown by Brett Farve. This touchdown would make the Patriots up 13-3. Making it a two score game. The Patriots would kick another field goal before the third quarter was over making the score 16-3 going into the fourth quarter.

The Jets would score early in the fourth quarter making the score 16-10 and bring the Jets into one touchdown of the lead. The Jets Defense were unable to stop the Patriots from making into field goal range for the fourth time in the game and the Pats would go up 19-10. The Jets would be unable to come back and put any more points on the board and the game would end 19-10 Patriots with the victory.

This was not a pretty game, but Cassel was able to hang on for the win. The Patriots and Cassel still have a lot to prove to other teams that they can win against the best of the best. Their Next opponents will be the Miami Dolphins. Brett Farve was unable to defeat the Pats(with no Tom Brady) so this team still has a lot to work on if they want to be in contention for the playoffs. This was an ugly week two for these two teams lets hope they can improve and move on.
