Comeback For The Ages!
WOW! What just happened? A 7 run lead vanished in the matter of 2 innings and an out. The Boston Red Sox will not go down without a fight and they proved that last night in game 5 of the ALCS.
The Tampa Bay Rays thought they had this game locked up and they threw away the key. Little did they know that the Red Sox had a spare.
The Rays jumped on the Red Sox early like they’ve done the past two games in Boston and were ready to pop the Champagne, but then out of no where with 7 outs to go in the game the Boston Red Sox started their comeback.
It wasn’t a one inning comeback, but to the Rays it had to feel like it. David Ortiz got things poppin’ when he hit a 3 run HR in the 7th and J.D. Drew would follow that up with a solo HR in the 8th with a few hits in between. With the score tied in the 9th inning and two outs the Rays had a chance to end the 9th and go to the 10th, but a bad throw from third to first by Evan Longoria would bounce into the stands putting a runner on second. The next batter up would hit the ball over the right fielders head and that’s all she wrote folks.
There will be a game 6 in Tampa Bay where the Rays hope to get the job done this time and the Red Sox hope to fight another day.
