World Series: Philadelphia Phillies vs. Tampa Bay Rays

Published by bertman at 10:26 pm under MLB Edit This

After a crazy and memorable ALCS and a dominate NLCS the World Series is set and will get started Wednesday October 22nd. The best team from the NL the Philadelphia Phillies will take on the best team from the AL the Tampa Bay Rays.

This is not the World Series everyone would have predicted, but it looks like it could be an interesting one. The Phillies have great hitters in Utley, Howard, and Burrel and a great Ace in Cole Hamels and other good pitchers in Myers and Moyer. The Tampa Bay Rays on the other hand stack up well against the Phillies in hitting and pitching. With Upton, Longoria, and Crawford the Rays could easily match run for run with the Phillies and with Kazmir, Garza, and Shields they can also match pitch for pitch.

The problem that I was seeing with the Rays in the ALCS was their bullpin. Now that they trust David Price I think that will make them stronger in the bullpin. With a guy that can come in in the 7th, 8th, or 9th innings and can throw 96-97 Mph can be a big help when your bullpin has been struggling. The Phillies will a tough team if there hitting wakes up and their pitching stays consistent.

The Rays coming off an emotional win against the defending champions will have a lot of confidence entering the series. As unpredictable as this World Series may have been it may turn out to be one that is great and full of everything October is made. With the Playoffs going the way they have it wouldn’t surprise me if this World Series is just as crazy.

I guess I’ll go ahead and take my pick and I’m going to say the Tampa Bay Rays. They been proving themselves all year and this I think is a team that isn’t going to come all this way and let it slip out of their hands. The Tampa Bay Rays will be the 2008 World Series Champions.
