The NFL Fining Player For Playing Football.
I have been seeing this more and more as the season has progressed and each time I’m like “What is the NFL turning into”? Fining players for playing the game. I mean in certain situations I’m fine with players getting fined, but lately it seems like every hit on the quarterback is getting players fined.
This is the only sport(except boxing and MMA) that we’re aloud to hit other people. Big hits are going to happen in football and sometimes you can’t help it and players shouldn’t get fined for these situations. One instance that comes to mind is the hit on Anquan Boldin by Jets safety Eric Smith. Boldin was coming down with the ball and Smith’s helmet connected with Boldin’s for a hell of a hit, but it you look at it Smith was already in the air and another Jets player hit Boldin from the back and forced him harder into Smith. Boldin wasn’t the only one to get shook up. Smith also got laid on the ground for a minute after the hit. Smith got a $50,000 fine and a one game suspension.
More players this past week got fined for hits they put on quarterbacks. Jared Allen from the Vikings got a $50,000 fine. Lamarr Woodley from the Steelers got fined $10,000 for hitting Jason Campbell, who’s head hit the ground. Justin Tuck from the Giants also got fined $7,500 for hitting Cowboys QB Brook Bollinger.
The NFL is a tough sport thats why most players weight well into the 200 pound range and pump weights everyday. When you hit somebody and they go to the ground the odds of their head hitting the ground is high. If you tackle someone the odds of you landing on top of them is also high. So why are players getting fined for things that are going to happen?
And the NFL are not fining some of the people that need to be fined. Lets take a look at the hit on Tom Brady.
If you look at this video you can clearly see that the hit by Bernard Pollard is a dirty hit. I mean he was on his hands and knees and dove forward toward Brady. Anybody in their right mind knows if your on your hands and knees that your about knee high on someone standing up. So if you dive forward you’re going to hit them in the knees. Guess what? The NFL called it a clean hit. How can this be a clean hit? It’s ridiculous.
To sum it all up the NFL needs to get their act together. I don’t know what it is this year that’s making them want to fine every hit on QB’s, but over look some hits that clearly deserver a fine. Maybe its because of the economic crisis and they need money? I don’t know, but whatever it is they need to re-think some plays and other plays let go because its football and stuff like that happens.
