Opening Day: Braves vs. Phillies

Published by bertman under MLB Edit This

Sunday, April 5th is opening day of major league baseball. It starts with the Atlanta Braves and the Philadelphia Phillies. The Phillies are coming off a World Series season last year and are hoping to get back to the big game. The Braves are hoping they have put a good enough team this year to get in to the playoffs and have a shot to get further.

The Phillies got rid of Pat Burrell during the off season, but other than that their team is pretty much the same. The still have big bats with Chase Utley and Ryan Howard. The pitching is pretty much the same and Jamie Moyer is one year older. The know what it takes to win and with that it might be enough to get into the playoffs and back to the world series.

The Atlanta Braves seem to always have a different team every year. Its like they can’t keep a player more than a year or two before getting rid of them(except Chipper Jones). But this year they have added some pitching that they needed to even think about getting to the playoffs let alone the World Series. Derek Lowe and Javier Vasquez are great additions to a struggling pitching staff and with Tim Hudson out they really needed pitching and they got it.

This should be a great opening day match up. Enjoy the game!

Manny and the Dodgers

Published by bertman under MLB Edit This

Manny and the Dodgers have finally sealed the deal. It’s about time. For one the Dodgers couldn’t afford to lose Manny and Manny need a place to call home before the season started. Los Angeles my not be the place you go to win World Series, but with Manny maybe the can.

Manny brings the Dodgers something they desperately need and that offensive power. Manny is the type of player that can keep you in a game with a swing of the bat. It wasn’t so much that Manny needed the Dodgers as much as the Dodgers needed Manny. Manny wants money and the Dodgers had it to give.

The Dodgers are a much better team with Manny Ramirez. Though he doesn’t help with the pitching staff he allows the pitching staff to make mistakes. When Manny is being Manny he is one of the best players in the league, but when he’s not is just like an ordinary player.

Maybe this year they will make it further than they did last year. One year older and another year with Manny.
